DES DEL BALCÓ. Festa Major Sant Andreu 2007

Qué cabrons els trabucaires, que em desperten el diumenge pel matí.

I qué bonics els gegans i els grallers!

What's a trabucaire? XIXth century bandits or militians that used trabucs - this weapons you see on the pict-. They were usually carlins ( supporters of Carles Maria de Borbó who wanted to be king. Carlins fighted agains liberalism and had lotta support between farmers. Carlins supported Franco on civil war but finally they felt betrayed by Franco)
Actually a trabucaire is a folcklore representation on town festival, that wakes everybody up at 8:00 sunday mornings and are the lead of the "rua" with giants, big headeds, dragons and traditional music.

Who was Serrallonga?

What's a gegant? Giants are high mobile statues. Every town have a pair, usually a king and his queen, but also can be another important couple of the town. Giants dance on main streets and main square when town festivals.
Under big skirts theres a person that raises the statue and begin to walk, spin and dance.
They dance under the sound of popular music.
Once, I danced under a queen, they are very heavy and difficult to move. And of course you cant fall or uopps, 4-5 meters of statue can hurt a lot.

Not a great explanation, but dont find anything in english!
